Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly considering signing Frank Lampard on a free transfer in the summer.
It is also thought that Chelsea will make a bid for Marouane Fellaini as his replacement at the end of the season.
The Times's Northern football correspondent James Ducker wrote on Twitter: "Fergie giving serious consideration to signing Lampard in the summer, with #CFC [Chelsea] eyeing Fellaini as his replacement."
Lampard's agent has conceded that the 34-year-old will not be offered a new Chelsea contract and will leave the club in June.
A host of clubs in Italy, America and England have been credited with an interest, and it now seems that Ferguson may offer Lampard the chance to join United.
Lampard paid tribute to the Chelsea fans this week, after moving joint-second on the club's all-time top scorers list, level with Kerry Dixon.
