Nigel de Jong 'favours Manchester United move after snubbing Ajax return'

Former Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong is reportedly interested in a move back to the Premier League, with Manchester United said to top the list of suitors.

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up a move for out-of-contract AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong this summer.

The 30-year-old, who has previously enjoyed a spell in the Premier League at Manchester City, seems certain to leave San Siro at the end of the current campaign following three years at the club.

Speculation emerged last night suggesting that the Dutchman is likely to snub a move back to his homeland with Ajax in favour of a switch to join former national team coach Louis van Gaal at United.

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of midfield anchormen over the past couple of months, although the Daily Star claims that De Jong could be at the top of the list of potential buys due to his current contract situation.
