Rafael Benitez confident of Sergio Ramos stay

Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez strengthens suggestions that Sergio Ramos has decided to remain with the Spanish club and reject the interest from Manchester United.

Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez is confident that Sergio Ramos will ultimately decide to remain with the Spanish club this summer.

The Spanish international has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United, who are in the market for a marquee signing in the transfer window.

However, according to Benitez, a recent meeting between Ramos and club president Florentino Perez to discuss the 29-year-old's future was successful.

"I spoke with the president at dinner on Sunday and he told me that he was going to talk to Ramos," Benitez told reporters after Monday's 3-0 win over Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup.

"I asked them both [about the meeting] and both were optimistic, so we'll see what happens."

It has been reported that Ramos is ready to sign a new long-term deal at the Bernabeu this summer.
