Report: Wigan Athletic line up Ryan Giggs to replace Malky Mackay

Wigan Athletic reportedly identify Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs as a potential replacement for Malky Mackay if the Scot is charged by the FA.

Wigan Athletic have reportedly added Ryan Giggs to their shortlist of candidates to replace Malky Mackay if the current manager is charged by the FA.

The Scot was appointed by the Championship side earlier this month after Uwe Rosler was fired, but is the subject of an ongoing investigation for allegedly sending homophobic, racist and sexist messages during his time at Cardiff City.

According to the Sunday People, Wigan chairman Dave Whelan is already making preparations if he is forced to part company with Mackay when the FA delivers its verdict, and has identified Manchester United's assistant manager as a potential replacement, with former teammate Nicky Butt as his number two.

Giggs retired from playing at the end of last season after a brief spell as caretaker manager at Old Trafford, but was kept on the coaching staff by new manager Louis van Gaal.
