Arsene Wenger: 'Sir Alex Ferguson's presence not a problem'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger rejects claims that Sir Alex Ferguson's continued presence at Manchester United is linked to the team's form.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dismissed the theory that Sir Alex Ferguson's presence at Manchester United fixtures is linked with the team's inconsistent form this season.

The Scot - now a director with the club - has been a regular visitor to Old Trafford throughout the campaign as the reigning Premier League champions have endured an indifferent defence of their title under manager David Moyes.

The Red Devils sit sixth in the standings, nine points adrift of current leaders Chelsea, and were eliminated from the FA Cup by Swansea City last weekend.

He told reporters: "Alex Ferguson was for 27 years at the club. When he appears in the stand, it is not a problem.

"What is the problem is the players on the pitch who can win the game."

Moyes's men face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next Sunday.
