Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood: 'I thought it was a penalty'

Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood says that his side were fortunate to avoid conceding a penalty kick at Old Trafford.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood has admitted that his side were fortunate not to concede a late penalty kick during their 2-1 win over Manchester United.

United were denied a spot kick when striker Ashley Young tumbled in the area under the challenge of Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, and Sherwood has since opened up about the incident.

"I haven't seen it back but at the time I thought it was a penalty," Sky Sports News quotes him as saying.

"It's one of them that could go either way but if we have got away that one I'm pleased because I remember coming here with Harry [Redknapp]. We were 2-0 up at half time and [Heurelho] Gomes made a save, he quite clearly played the ball first but they got a penalty.

"They even themselves out."

United boss David Moyes also addressed the incident in his post-match interview, describing it as "scandalous".
