Pogba: 'Price tag no longer an issue'

Paul Pogba hopes that he can thrive at Manchester United this season as he is now being allowed to simply focus on his own game.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has admitted that he is happy to simply focus on his football and not have to worry about questions regarding his hefty transfer fee.

The France international rejoined the Red Devils from Juventus last summer for a then-record £89m, which has since been eclipsed by the £200m Paris Saint-Germain paid to land Neymar earlier this month.

Boss Jose Mourinho recently claimed that Pogba will thrive this season without the weight on his shoulders that came with being the world's costliest player, and the 24-year-old hopes to prove his manager right in his second full campaign at Old Trafford.

"Last season the first question from everyone was always all about the price tag," The Telegraph quotes him as saying. "Now everyone is asking about the football. That tells you everything. When you know the team more you know how to play alongside them. You get on better. You just get a different feeling.

"You can see against West Ham everybody was getting along well and playing for each other. It was an excellent start to the season but what matters is the end. We have started well but we have to carry on like this. [Nemanja] Matic was a key player and Romelu [Lukaku] scored two goals so it is what we wanted and what we expect.

"But it is only one game. When I left I always felt like I had missed something at United because I wasn't a first XI player. Now I'm happy to be back. I grew up a lot in Italy and I have come back as a man. I am always confident and now it is my second season. I know more about the Premier League and I adapt more with the team."

Pogba netted Man United's fourth goal in their opening-game 4-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
