Phil Neville believes that signing Alexis Sanchez for £25m would be an "absolute snip" for Manchester United.

Phil Neville has claimed that Alexis Sanchez would be an "absolute snip" at £25m and believes that the Arsenal striker would propel Manchester United to success.

Sanchez is widely expected to depart the Emirates Stadium this year, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Manchester City were believed to be the frontrunners for the Chilean's signature, but reports emerged on Thursday linking the Red Devils with the 29-year-old.

Neville compared the prospect of Sanchez arriving at Old Trafford to the signings of Robin van Persie and Eric Cantona, both of whom helped the Red Devils to glory-laden spells.

"If you look back at Man Utd's big signings over the decades, Cantona came out of the hat, Van Persie was a surprise, and they both helped United win titles," Neville told Sky Sports News.

"I think this could have a similar impact. He's got the character to play at Old Trafford.

"It would be a coup, particularly for United fans, to have a player like Sanchez potentially come to them over City. It would be a strong statement.

"It's pretty obvious he's not going to stay at Arsenal. I think if United were going to buy him, £25m would be an absolute snip."

Sanchez has made 165 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 80 goals and registering 46 assists for the North London giants.
