Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly in talks with Manchester United over becoming the club's new head coach at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains in charge of the Red Devils, but the team's inconsistency this season means that the Norwegian's future at the club continues to be called into question.
United are only six points off fourth-placed Chelsea with a game in hand, although they suffered their seventh league defeat of the campaign away to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the 20-time English champions are in discussions with Pochettino over the possibility of the Argentine replacing Solskjaer at the end of the season.
Pedulla claims that the former Tottenham Hotspur manager is prepared to wait until the summer for the job, although he would demand full control over transfers before accepting the position.
The 47-year-old, who was sacked as Spurs boss in November 2019 after a lacklustre start to the season, had also been linked with Barcelona before Quique Setien was confirmed as Ernesto Valverde's replacement.
United will be looking to return to winning ways in the league when they host Burnley on Wednesday.
