Steven Gerrard urges Liverpool to take a leaf out of Everton's book when they face Manchester United.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has urged his teammates to replicate the style of their rivals Everton when they face Manchester United on Sunday.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men struggled with the Toffees' high-tempo game on the opening day of the season at Goodison Park, losing 1-0.

Liverpool are still searching for their first win this season after a particularly poor start to Brendan Rodgers' managerial career at Anfield. Gerrard believes that a high tempo, paired with the support of the home crowd, will help his side get the three points.

"Everton played at a very high tempo in that game and the supporters got behind the team, which gave them a huge advantage," Gerrard told the club's official website.

"If we can do that - with our fans behind us and playing at a tempo we're comfortable with - it will put Manchester United on the back foot and that's usually when we can force the opposition into mistakes.

"It's difficult to put your finger on one thing and say that's the key to winning. But with our support behind us at Anfield and the timing of this game, I'm confident that if we play well we can take maximum points."

Gerrard is expected to start in the game at Anfield on Sunday.
