Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has insisted that Wayne Rooney's importance to the club cannot be overstated.
Robin van Persie has taken the headlines for United thus far this season with seven goals in eight appearances, but Evra has reminded supporters not to forget Rooney's contribution.
"Robin's an amazing player and that's good but people mustn't forget what Wayne Rooney has done for this club. He's a big, massive player and looked really sharp last night," Evra told reporters.
"When someone new comes, everyone is excited and forgets the old things. But Wazza will show it to everyone."
Rooney and Van Persie have started just one match together so far this season.
