Jonny Evans demands FA Cup success

Jonny Evans calls on his Man United teammates to end the club's 11-year barren spell in the FA Cup by winning the competition this season.

Jonny Evans has urged his Manchester United teammates to mark Louis van Gaal's first season in charge by winning the FA Cup.

The Red Devils moved one step nearer to a first title since 2004 after thumping Cambridge United 3-0 on Tuesday night to progress into the fifth round.

Van Gaal's side sit 10 points adrift of high-flying Chelsea in the Premier League, and Evans admits that success in the FA Cup is the club's only shot at silverware this season.

"It's an old cliche that you want to win everything but it is such a historic trophy, especially for Manchester United," he told Sky Sports News.

"And the fact that the league is still not gone but not looking likely, the FA Cup looks our best chance of a trophy, especially considering some of the teams that have gone out.

"We're the highest ranked team left in the competition now. It was a bit of a shock sitting at home hearing the news that Chelsea and City had gone out. But we know from our own experiences all about upsets."

United travel to Deepdale for a clash with Preston North End on February 16.
