Manchester City are reportedly keen to secure David Silva's short-term future at the Etihad until the season can reach a conclusion amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Manchester City captain David Silva is reportedly willing to put pen to paper on a short-term contract extension at the Etihad for the remainder of the season.

The veteran midfielder is due to depart Manchester when his current deal expires on June 30 after 10 years with the Citizens, during which time he has amassed 73 goals from 423 appearances.

However, should the Premier League season be given the green light to play on amid the coronavirus pandemic, the 2019-20 campaign will not resume until June 12 at the earliest.

According to ESPN, City are determined to keep Silva on the books until the season can reach a conclusion.

The report claims that Silva is happy to stay on at the Etihad as he is still holding out for Champions League glory, with Pep Guardiola's side currently 2-1 up on aggregate over Real Madrid in the last 16.

Silva has registered three goals and seven assists from 19 Premier League appearances this term.
