Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman is confident that the Catalan giants will soon reach an agreement with Lionel Messi over a new contract at Camp Nou.
Messi's current deal is due to expire at the end of June, and Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain continue to be credited with an interest in the Argentina international.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently said that he was "optimistic" over a fresh contract for the 33-year-old, who now appears to be open to remaining at Camp Nou.
Koeman has now suggested that an announcement on the South American is not too far away.
"We have always said that Messi has to finish his career at Barcelona, so I hope we can make it official soon. I think it can be done. It will be great news for everyone," Koeman told Sport.
Messi, who attempted to force a move away from his La Liga club last summer, scored 38 times and registered 14 assists in 47 appearances for Barcelona during the 2020-21 campaign.
