Roberto Martinez frustrated by penalty decision in loss to Manchester City

Everton manager Roberto Martinez reveals his frustration with the the first-half penalty decision which led to his side's 1-0 loss to Manchester City.

Roberto Martinez has claimed that his Everton side were left shocked by the decision to give Manchester City a vital penalty in a 1-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

Yaya Toure stepped up in the first half to score the winner after Andre Marriner decided that Phil Jagielka had fouled James Milner inside the box, but Martinez made it clear that he believed the official had made a mistake.

"I thought in the first half, if anything, we got a big shock with the decision of awarding the penalty and our confidence was not the same," the Spaniard told Sky Sports.

"I think in the second half we were able to relax a little bit, having reset at half time, and we were more ourselves. It made for a very good game of football.

"It was a wrong decision. When you see a ball come into the box, James Milner takes the ball away from the direction, there was contact but no contact of trying to make a foul. Football is a contact sport and for that to be a penalty is a big, big difference."

Everton are currently 10th in the Premier League after failing to record victory for the third time in six days.
