Real Madrid reveal that both Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao have undergone knee surgeries following their recent ACL injuries.

Real Madrid have revealed that both Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao underwent knee surgeries on Thursday, with Dr. Manuel Leyes performing both operations.

Courtois damaged his anterior cruciate ligament during a training session last week, with the Belgium international facing being out for the entire 2023-24 campaign.

Militao then tore his ACL during Saturday's La Liga contest against Athletic Bilbao, with Real Madrid suffering a double blow to two key players.

"Our player Eder Militao underwent successful surgery today for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee by Dr. Manuel Leyes, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services," read a statement on the club's official website in reference to Militao.

"Militao will begin his recovery process in the coming days."

Meanwhile, Real Madrid also confirmed that Courtois had been operated on by the same surgeon, with the goalkeeper also set to begin his recovery program "in the coming days".

"Our player Thibaut Courtois has successfully undergone surgery today to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He was operated on by Dr. Manuel Leyes, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services," said the club in a statement.

"Courtois will begin his recovery program in the coming days."

Real Madrid responded to the Courtois setback by bringing in Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea, with the Spaniard set to be the club's number one goalkeeper this season.

Los Blancos are also now said to be in the market for a new centre-back, with Manchester City's Aymeric Laporte believed to have emerged as a leading target for the club.

Three Real Madrid players have now undergone knee operations early in the season, with new signing Arda Guler also having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Carlo Ancelotti's side beat Athletic 2-0 in their season opener on Saturday, and their focus is now on this weekend's contest with Almeria.

Ferland Mendy and Dani Ceballos are also currently on the sidelines for the capital giants due to injuries, but the pair are both expected to be available for selection in the near future.
