Manchester City hit four goals without a reply as they progress through to the last 16 of the Europa League at the expense of Porto.

Manchester City advanced through to the last 16 of the Europa League with a 4-0 victory over Porto at the Etihad Stadium this evening.

The result means that City have won the tie 6-1 against their Portuguese opponents over the two legs.

It took hosting City just a matter of seconds to opening the scoring. Nigel de Jong and Yaya Toure exchanged passes before the latter found Sergio Aguero to score from the edge of the area.

Aguero had City's best chance to double their advantage before the break, but his chipped effort rebounded off the crossbar.

Porto thought that they had drawn themselves level shortly after the restart, but James Rodriguez's close-range goal was ruled out for offside.

City put the tie beyond the reach of Porto courtesy of substitute Edin Dzeko, who slotted in a cross from Aguero. Porto defender Rolando was sent off after the goal for complaining that Dzeko had been in an offside position when he scored.

There was still time for City to add two more goals before the final whistle, with David Silva and David Pizarro both finding the net from close range to seal progression for Roberto Mancini's team.

Porto went into the tie as holders, having beaten Braga in last season's final.
