Hubert Fournier: 'Montpellier HSC defeat the worst game of my career'

Lyon coach Hubert Fournier criticises the performance of his players after they are humbled by a 4-2 home defeat at the hands of visiting side Montpellier HSC in Ligue 1.

Lyon coach Hubert Fournier has said that he oversaw the worst match that he had ever been in charge of following the club's 4-2 defeat at home to Montpellier HSC in Ligue 1.

Fournier's charges fell to a humiliating defeat at the Stade de Gerland on Friday night as they were undone by the brilliance of Rodrigue Ninga, leading the Lyon boss to question his side's physical and mental attitude in the contest.

"It's the worst match I have ever been in charge of, and I'm not just talking about Lyon," said Fournier, according to the official Ligue 1 website.

"We were below-par in everything. We sank collectively. Inside ten minutes we had given them a lot of chances, and given them a lot of space. We then didn't have the mental or physical resources to get back into it.

"The second half was very difficult. We let the game get away from us. There's a feeling of shame given a performance like that. We have to find a way of picking ourselves up, and find 11 guys who can go out and battle at Nantes."

The defeat has left second-placed Lyon further behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain in the standings.
