Liverpool are reportedly preparing to hold contract talks with Mohamed Salah once the Egyptian returns from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Liverpool are reportedly expected to step up their efforts to renew Mohamed Salah's contract following the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite enjoying significant success during his time as a Liverpool player, Salah currently faces an uncertain future with just 18 months left to run on his current deal.

Salah has been linked with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League after being the subject of interest in the summer transfer window.

While Liverpool refused to entertain any efforts to prise Salah away in the summer, there has been a suggestion that the forward could leave the club at the end of the current campaign.

However, a recent report claimed that Salah was open to extending his stay despite being earmarked as a target for Saudi Arabian clubs.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are set to hold talks over a new contract when the 31-year-old returns from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The report suggests that the Reds were keen to discuss a new deal following the turn of the year, but the player is currently focusing on representing his country at the upcoming tournament in the Ivory Coast.

Egypt will play their first game against Mozambique on Sunday, and Salah will hope that his nation is still in the competition when the final takes place on February 1.

From the player's perspective, he is reportedly still driven to compete at the top level of European football with Jurgen Klopp's side.

The striker remains a pivotal member of the Liverpool squad, having netted 18 goals and provided nine assists in 27 competitive appearances this season.

In total, Salah has registered 204 goals in 332 matches since joining the Merseyside club from Roma in the summer of 2017.

Liverpool are also expected to start work on new deals for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, who are both out of contract in June 2025.

While Salah is preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations, his Liverpool teammates will have a short break before they return to action against Bournemouth on January 21.
