Liverpool have reportedly asked Real Madrid to keep them informed over the position of midfielder Asier Illarramendi.
The Spanish international has struggled to secure regular football at Los Blancos, with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric preferred in the centre of the park.
According to The People, Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Illarramendi does not feature in his long-term plans for the club and Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has taken an interest in the 24-year-old.
Liverpool may face competition from Illarramendi's former club Real Sociedad, but the mooted £17m price tag may prove too much for the San Sebastian outfit.
Athletic Bilbao are believed to have offered £15m, but the approach was turned by both the player and the club.
