Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed that he is "excited" for the future at Liverpool despite reports linking him with a transfer to Real Madrid.

The Merseyside-born right-back has been at his boyhood club Liverpool since the age of six and has made a total of 315 first-team appearances across all competitions since and including his debut in 2016.

Alexander-Arnold is widely regarded as one of the best right-backs - particularly from a creative perspective - in Europe, chipping in with 19 goals and 82 assists for Liverpool, and was a key cog in the Reds machine during the Jurgen Klopp era.

The 25-year-old has won eight trophies at Liverpool, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and two EFL Cups, and he is hoping to lift more silverware with the club this season under new head coach Arne Slot.

However, speculation over Alexander-Arnold's long-term future at Anfield is rife as he is due to see his current contract at the club expire in June 2025.

Alexander-Arnold planning to stay at Liverpool?

Recent reports have linked Alexander-Arnold with a move to Real Madrid, who have allegedly developed a 'concrete' interest in the right-back and have been 'in contact' with the Liverpool star over a potential move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos are understood to have identified the England international as one of their primary transfer targets ahead of next summer.

However, Alexander-Arnold has dropped a hint over his future at Liverpool, admitting that he is "excited" about what is in store for the club going forward following a conversation with Slot.

Speaking to reporters after Liverpool's 3-1 Champions League win over AC Milan, Alexander-Arnold said: "For me, it was just an excitement to work under a new manager that I've never had before.

"Having spoken to the manager, I was excited about the plans and the way they talk about it."

The right-back has also discussed Liverpool's Premier League and Champions League ambitions for this season, telling CBS Sports: "I think this club belongs in the Champions League with the history that it's had and [it was] disappointing last year not being a part of it.

"But we're back where we belong and [there is] no better way to get this campaign started than getting a win at the San Siro - a special venue, a special stadium and an unbelievable result.

"There is a lot of tactical changes within games: where to go, where not to go, when to stay wide, when to drop into the back line, when to go into midfield, when to be kind of like a number eight, or when Mo [Salah] rolls inside and I'm a high winger.

"There's all different variations and [Slot] gives us that information throughout the week, throughout the game, leading up to the game. He paints scenarios so we have answers for everything, so it's kind of like: 'OK, if they press this way then this is where we're going to be positioned and if they press a different way then we'll position ourselves a different way'."

Alexander-Arnold is not the only Liverpool player who has been linked with an exit, as star attacker Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk have also entered the final year of their contracts.
