Steven Gerrard: 'I would like to play for Jose Mourinho'

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits that he remains keen on playing under current Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that he remains keen on playing under current Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

The 32-year-old midfielder twice rejected moves to Chelsea during Mourinho's reign at Stamford Bridge.

"Liverpool weren't really challenging at the time, so there was something to think about," Gerrard explained.

"But I ended up saying 'no' [in 2004] and a year later I said 'no' again. But he came back when he arrived at Real Madrid two years ago."

Despite rejecting Mourinho's advances three times in total, Gerrard confirms that teaming up with the Portuguese is still an idea that interests him.

He said: "I would like to play for Mourinho - the Special One."

Gerrard's current contract at Anfield expires in June 2014.
