John Aldridge encourages his former club Liverpool to attempt to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain in the summer.

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes that the Merseyside club should try to sign Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain.

The 53-year-old has admitted that he is growing increasingly concerned by Liverpool's failings in front of goal this season.

With that in mind, Aldridge believes that Argentine international Higuain would ease the club's current problems.

"You feel that a top side needs to have three or four strikers they can rotate," Aldridge told the Liverpool Echo. "Certainly Liverpool need a goalscorer.

"I don't know who the club may have in mind but I like the look of Gonzalo Higuain at Real Madrid.

"He doesn't play an awful lot at the Bernabeu but he would be brilliant for us."

Higuain has been at Madrid since 2007.
