Daniel Agger's agent confirms that Liverpool have rejected a bid for the centre-back.

The agent of Liverpool centre-back Daniel Agger has confirmed that Barcelona have had a bid rejected for the player.

Barcelona were thought to have made an official offer of around £15m for the Dane last week as they step up their chase for a new central defender.

The Reds turned that offer down, and Agger's agent Per Steffensen hinted that the 28-year-old would not try to force a move to the Spanish giants.

"We are aware that Barcelona have made an offer for Daniel that Liverpool have rejected," said Steffensen.

"Daniel has a contract with Liverpool for the next three years and it would be up to the clubs to agree a fee for his transfer in order for that to change."

Agger was named as Liverpool's new vice-captain last week following the retirement of Jamie Carragher.
