Liverpool defender Kolo Toure believes that competition for places at Anfield will only improve their performances on the pitch.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has strengthened his defence with the signings of Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori, and despite his position being under threat, Toure has welcomed the new arrivals.
The 32-year-old told the club's official website: "It has increased the competition and everybody has to work really hard every day.
"That is the only way that we can make the team better and I'm glad that we have signed two very, very good players.
"We know all about Mamadou Sakho, he is a very good player. Tiago has also come in from Portugal and is a really good defender as well."
Toure is an injury doubt ahead of Liverpool's trip to Swansea City on Monday night.
