Liverpool striker Luis Suarez: 'Reaching goal milestone is not priority'

Luis Suarez says that he is more determined to help Liverpool finish the season strongly as opposed to achieving personal goal records.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has insisted that he is purely focused on helping the club finish strongly in the Premier League as opposed to personal milestones.

The Uruguayan international will become the leading scorer in a 38-game season if he adds three more to his current 29-goal tally in the Premier League this season.

Despite being close to surpassing Alan Shearer and Cristiano Ronaldo in the goal records, Suarez has insisted that the team's position in the table is more important.

"For myself, it is more important that Liverpool finish in a good position," Suarez told the club's official website. "I try in every game to score because I am a striker. I love to make goals, but for me if I could swap being top scorer or winning the Golden Boot for the team finishing in the top four, that would be more important.

"Of course it would be special [to break the record]. In the last few years I have tried to do my job as well as I can to help the team and the Liverpool supporters."

The Reds are currently at the top of the league table with a two-point lead over Chelsea with five games to go.

A potentially title-deciding clash gets underway on Sunday when Manchester City, who are third with two games in hand, travel to Anfield.
