FIFA decide against punishing Liverpool and Uruguay striker Luis Suarez for allegedly punching a Chile opponent.

Liverpool and Uruguay international Luis Suarez will not face any punishment from FIFA for allegedly punching Chile's Gonzalo Jara during a World Cup qualifier.

The 26-year-old has been under investigation by the world governing body after camera footage appeared to pick out Suarez striking Jara during a tussle in Uruguay's 2-0 defeat.

"The matter in question does not require the intervention of the FIFA disciplinary committee and therefore the disciplinary procedure in question is declared closed," FIFA said in a statement on the AUF website.

"It's very good news for Luis, the national team and for the whole group," The Independent quotes AUF president Sebastian Bauza as saying.

"We understand that from now on, Luis should realise that he will be watched from all sides and we hope that this experience, when added to others, will be useful, so that he becomes the player will all want him to be."

Meanwhile, Suarez has served two games of his 10-match suspension at Liverpool for biting the arm of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
