Liverpool are expected to announce the club's new manager this week, with Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers emerging as the leading candidate.

Liverpool are reportedly planning to appoint the club's new manager this Friday.

The Merseyside outfit have been searching for Kenny Dalglish's replacement since sacking the Scotsman a fortnight ago following a disappointing Premier League campaign.

Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers has become the standout candidate to take the position, with bookmakers suspending betting on the Northern Irishman being installed at Anfield for next season.

The 39-year-old held talks with the Swans' chairman Huw Jenkins yesterday amid speculation linking Rodgers to the vacancy.

Wigan Athletic coach Roberto Martinez, who returned to the North West from a holiday in Barbados yesterday, was the original frontrunner for the position following discussions with Liverpool's American owners but reports have claimed that interest in the Spaniard has since cooled.
