Jurgen Klopp: 'Liverpool lack belief to change games'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that his side do not currently have enough belief to win games after they were pegged back to a 1-1 draw by Southampton.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested that his side do not believe that they can change games after the Reds failed to win for the third game under his management.

Sadio Mane's late goal cancelled out Christian Benteke's header as Southampton held the hosts to a 1-1 draw on Saturday to leave Klopp's side ninth in the table.

The German said that he was impressed with the effort he saw from his players, but said that their failure to win was down to a concerning lack of confidence.

"We still had 10 minutes to go, and I think we saw tonight that we did not give up physically, but we did not believe that we could change the game and that is the problem," he told reporters.

"We made the goal, and then gave away the free kick. We are not calm enough when we have our chances and need to make the last pass and stuff. I do not understand the pressure in this moment, but the guys feel this - you can see it.

"They work so hard, they are full of concentration, full of passion, then they concede one goal and it feels like the end of the world. It is not the end of the world, it is only a goal and you can always come back, this is what we need to understand."

The former Borussia Dortmund manager will next lead his side out in a home League Cup fourth round tie against Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
