Karel Fraeye named Charlton Athletic interim manager

Charlton name Karel Fraeye as interim manager following Saturday's sacking of Guy Luzon.

Charlton Athletic have confirmed that they have appointed Karel Fraeye as interim head coach following the dismissal of Guy Luzon.

Luzon was sacked on Saturday after the club's 3-0 defeat to Brentford left them in the Championship relegation zone and without a win since August.

Assistant head coach Damian Matthew and first-team coach David Martane also left the club, and the Addicks website confirmed that they have moved swiftly to put 37-year-old Fraeye in charge "while the club undertake the process to appoint a head coach on a permanent basis."

Fraeye has previous experience coaching at the Londoners, having assisted then-boss Jose Riga in avoiding relegation at the end of the 2013-14 season, when the pair led the club to seven wins and three draws in the final 16 games to secure an 18th-place finish.

The temporary manager will be joined at The Valley by compatriot Wim De Corte, and the pair will take charge of training for the first time on Monday ahead of Saturday's trip to face Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
