Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has admitted that he was 'surprised' to learn that he had been called into the England squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
Alongside Chelsea duo Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Gomez was named in Gareth Southgate's latest squad.
The 20-year-old has been a feature of Liverpool's first XI since recovering from a long-term knee problem, and has revealed his delight after earning a call-up to the national team.
"It means a great deal for me personally. It has obviously been a dream of mine since I was a kid to represent my country at senior level," Gomez told reporters.
"It was a surprise. I wasn't expecting the call-up but it was great news for me and my family, all of those close to me and it is a dream come true."
England will host Germany on Friday night before welcoming Brazil to London next Tuesday.
