Steven Gerrard: 'We demolished Arsenal from start to finish'

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard rates his side's performance during yesterday's 5-1 rout of Arsenal as one of the top three during his time at the club.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has claimed that his side's performance during yesterday's 5-1 win over Arsenal was one of the best that he has ever been part of.

The Reds raced into a 4-0 lead within 20 minutes against an Arsenal side who were top of the table going into the match, before Raheem Sterling added a fifth for the hosts in the second half.

The result leaves Liverpool just six points off new league leaders Chelsea, and Gerrard is in no doubt that it was one of the best team performances of his career.

"I am trying to think back of a performance - especially in the first half - that I can remember in the last 15 years. Maybe one or two in the Champions League got close but that was as explosive as it gets. That is right up there: definitely in the top three performances I have been involved in," Gerrard is quoted as saying by PA.

"You are talking about a side that is top of the league with world-class players, ones who are worth £42m; Jack Wilshere, one of the country's big hopes who we are looking to perform at a World Cup; [Santi] Cazorla - a World Cup winner.

"We have absolutely demolished a top team there from start to finish."

Liverpool's next match sees them face Fulham at Craven Cottage before taking on the Gunners again next Sunday in the FA Cup.
