Steven Gerrard: 'I'll be comfortable in new role'

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard admits that it will take him time to get used to his new role in the side, but is confident that he will be "comfortable" in it.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has insisted that he will settle into his new role in the side as he takes a more defensive approach during matches.

Gerrard played alongside Lucas Leiva in Liverpool's 5-3 win over Stoke City this afternoon, with the Brazilian getting forward more often than the England captain, who remained in a disciplined defensive midfield role.

The 33-year-old has admitted that it would take him a bit of time to get used to his new position, but is confident that he can adapt having played it earlier in his career.

"It's something we've been working on in the week and the manager's told me moving forward I'll play this role more," Gerrard told Sky Sports News.

"It's going to take a little bit of time to get used to, but I've played it many times for England and a few times for Liverpool in the early days, so I'll be comfortable in there."

Despite the defensive nature of the position, Gerrard still managed to get on the scoresheet against Stoke as he converted a contentious penalty at the start of the second half.
