Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho out for at least a month

Philippe Coutinho will be out until the end of October at least with a shoulder injury, Liverpool announce.

Philippe Coutinho will be out until the end of October with a shoulder injury, Liverpool announced this afternoon.

The Brazilian suffered the injury in the second half of Monday's 2-2 draw at Swansea in a collision with Swans skipper Ashley Williams.

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers initially said that the injury didn't look too bad but now Liverpool have confirmed a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

"After being assessed by the Reds medical staff, it's been decided that Coutinho will now have surgical stabilisation on the AC joint in his shoulder," the club said.

"Liverpool hope to have the 21-year-old back in contention again towards the end of October."

After four games of the Premier League season, Liverpool sit top of the bunch with 10 points from a possible 12.
