Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has revealed what he and his teammates focus on during a training session with manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Brazilian, who will not be out on the training pitch until the New Year due to an ankle injury, has explained how Klopp puts the players through their paces.

The attack-minded team have forced themselves into contention for the Premier League title in the early stages of the season as they currently sit four points adrift of leaders Chelsea after 14 games.

The Reds have lost just twice in the top flight this season, but their unbeaten run came to an end at the weekend when they relinquished a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3 against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

In January's issue of FourFourTwo magazine, Coutinho has given fans an insight into what goes on during a training session and why "happiness" is key.

"We work really hard on our passing game, because our manager likes this type of playing style," said Coutinho. "Something we practise a lot is playing three short passes and then switching the play with a longer pass. We often repeat that routine.

"One of the reasons we do this is so that the forwards can try to escape their markers and then open up spaces on the pitch very quickly.

"I don't think there is a secret - you just have to practise making these decisions a lot. Attacking midfielders need to play with happiness. By that I mean dribbling at pace and making things happen. If you repeat that every day, then you will tap into the perfect mental state to be creative."

Liverpool currently lead the way in the goalscoring charts with 35.
