Swansea City caretaker boss Leon Britton slams his side's "unacceptable" second-half collapse during their 5-0 Boxing Day defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

Caretaker Swansea City manager Leon Britton has slammed his side's "unacceptable" collapse during the second half of their Boxing Day clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

The Swans fell behind after just six minutes courtesy of a Philippe Coutinho goal, but managed to avoid suffering any further damage before half time.

However, a second-half Roberto Firmino brace coupled with goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain saw Liverpool ultimately run out 5-0 winners, leaving Swansea rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

"After we conceded the second goal we made so many mistakes, it's unacceptable. It's difficult when the game is going like that but you have to face up to it and take responsibility. I'm part of it, of course it's the players out on the pitch," Britton told BBC Sport.

"The second half hurts a lot more, when I see that second-half performance it hurts an awful lot. It's difficult seeing it after being at the club for so long. After the second goal the heads went down but you are still professional. You have to keep going. You have to give everything you've got.

"I've not heard nothing (regarding a new manager), I've got no update. It's just me until I'm told anything different. I'm sure there'll be some fresh faces to come in, but it's down to this group of players to get out of it.

"If we perform like we did in the second half, it will be a long second half of the season. We need a new manager and some new faces to lift the place. It worked last year. But we need to make sure we don't get cut adrift."

Swansea are now five points adrift of safety heading into Saturday's match away to Watford.
