John Aldridge: Lack of Liverpool goals is a "big problem"

Liverpool legend John Aldridge describes the lack of cutting edge up front as a "big problem" for Brendan Rodgers's side.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has bemoaned a lack of cutting edge in front of goal from Brendan Rodgers's side this term.

Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard are the club's top scorers in the Premier League with six each, and after a campaign that saw Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge share 52 strikes between them last season, the former Ireland striker described the lack of goals as a "big problem".

Aldridge told the Liverpool Echo: "Take out Daniel Sturridge, who came on as sub on Saturday, and what is there? Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini are obviously not in favour, for one reason or another, so who else is there?"

"Our leading league scorers have six goals each. Six goals. It's April. We had a feast in that regard last season, but it's been famine this.

"It's a big problem. That game [against Arsenal] on Saturday was never a 4-1, in my opinion, but when one side has clinical finishers, that's what you get. It's the key difference between the sides at the top and the sides striving to get there."

Rodgers's men return to action when they travel to Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup on Wednesday.
