Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk played no part of training on Monday ahead of the Club World Cup semi-final with Monterrey.

Virgil van Dijk was left out of training on Monday as Liverpool continue their preparations for the Club World Cup semi-finals.

Having won the Champions League in June, the Merseyside giants have flown to Qatar, with Monterrey their first opponents on Wednesday evening.

However, despite no injury being reported, Van Dijk did not train with the rest of the group in Doha on Monday.

The Mirror suggests that Liverpool's recent injury problems at the back may have led to Jurgen Klopp resting one of his key men.

After Tuesday's EFL Cup quarter-final with Aston Villa, a number of youngsters are scheduled to fly out to provide backup to the first-team squad.
