Joel Matip, Adam Lallana to miss Liverpool's friendly with Chester FC

Manager Jurgen Klopp says that both Joel Matip and Adam Lallana will play no part of the pre-season friendly with Chester FC on Saturday.

Joel Matip and Adam Lallana have both been ruled out of Liverpool's pre-season friendly with Chester FC.

Despite having only featured in the Champions League final at the end of May, Liverpool are already back in training and face the National League North side on Saturday.

However, manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Matip and Lallana will miss the short trip to the non-league side due to a thigh injury and illness respectively.

Klopp told the club's official website: "I think it's a bit too early for Joel. He is in training, not doing all but in a few parts he's doing more than the others. He's not involved in football at the moment but from next week on he will be fully involved.

"Adam Lallana will not be involved possibly, not sure. He's a little bit ill, we have to see. I think Saturday will not be possible for him."

The fixture will still start at 3pm, despite a desire to change the kickoff time due to England's World Cup quarter-final with Sweden.
