Simon Mignolet has expressed his delight at seeing Liverpool bounce back from their recent disappointments with a well-earned 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup this evening.
The Reds have lost back-to-back games in the Premier League to fall seven points adrift of a top-four spot, although they managed to overcome a stubborn Rovers side at Ewood Park to keep their hopes of tasting silverware this season alive and well.
Philippe Coutinho's strike with a little under 20 minutes left to play proved to be the difference in Lancashire, with Mignolet later admitting that picking up the win - not matter how it came about - was the most important thing.
"Blackburn had big strikers and were always going to play long balls into the box," he is quoted as saying by the Daily Star. "But we defended well and as a keeper you have to sometimes be there to help the team.
"I'm very pleased - the main thing was to get the victory, to get through, and we've done that today. We had to bounce back tonight. Everybody worked really hard, put in a shift and did the gaffer proud."
Liverpool will be looking to build on this evening's victory when they take on Newcastle United next Monday.
