Claude Puel admits that he is 'disappointed' Leicester City failed to get the job done against Manchester City after taking them all the way to penalties in the EFL Cup.

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has insisted that his side can "have no regrets" after crashing out of the EFL Cup with a penalty shootout defeat to Manchester City.

The Foxes' run in the competition came to an end at the quarter-final stage on Tuesday night, as Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez missed from the spot following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

Puel believes that his side did well to push a much-changed Man City side all the way at the King Power Stadium, with Vardy converting from 12 yards late on in normal time to level things up, but the Frenchman was ultimately left upset by the manner of the defeat.

"I just think we are unlucky. I think we have had most chances, it was a good game, fantastic game between two good teams, and it is a disappointment of course," he told Sky Sports News.

"But we have no regrets, because we gave our best, and just perhaps the beginning of the game, with 20 or 25 minutes gone we saw the quality [of Man City], but afterwards we played very well.

"It was important to play like this and give a good response after the last result (a 3-0 defeat at home by Crystal Palace). There are no regrets about what we could do tonight, I just think we were unlucky with a lot of chances to score.

"Of course it is a disappointment for the squad, because they worked hard. I like this, this positive outlook, because we had to give a good response. It is OK for the future."

Man City have now gone 27 domestic games without losing since last season's FA Cup semi-finals.
