Didier Deschamps: 'Olivier Giroud ready to impress'

Didier Deschamps insists that Olivier Giroud is not feeling down after starting on the bench for France's World Cup opener last week.

France boss Didier Deschamps has insisted that striker Olivier Giroud is ready to be called upon if needed in tonight's World Cup clash with Switzerland.

Karim Benzema was given the nod ahead of the Arsenal man to start the 3-0 win over Honduras in their Group E opener on Sunday, and scored twice to vindicate his coach.

Consequently, Giroud was reported to have been left feeling dejected following the omission, but Deschamps told reporters that the forward is firmly focused on playing any role given to him.

"[Giroud] is part of a group that won their first game in the World Cup and, just like everyone else in the group, he's currently getting ready to try to win the second game," he said.

"We have a match every five days. We've worked a lot during our preparations and I want them all to be ready.

"Only 11 can be on the pitch but I want all 23 to be available; to be ready. And they are."

Tonight's encounter in Salvador kicks off at 8pm.
