Sheffield United advance in the FA Cup with a comfortable 3-1 win over Salisbury.

Sheffield United secured their passage in the FA Cup after a 3-1 win over Salisbury on Saturday afternoon.

It was the home side who made most of the early running and Harry Maguire so nearly opened the scoring after seven minutes, but his effort drifted just wide of the post.

Sheffield United did open the scoring after 18 minutes when Chris Porter produced a cool finish inside the area after good work from Lee Williamson.

Salisbury did not go without their chances, however, and Darrell Clarke brought a smart save from Steve Simonsen in an eventful opening of football.

Ched Evans almost made it two for the home side after 26 minutes, but he pulled his effort wide from outside the area.

Evans again went close after 33 minutes but Mark Scott pushed the ball to safety.

The home side did eventually secure the second decisive goal on the hour mark when Evans found the corner after good work from Kevin McDonald.

The tie was put beyond all doubt after 72 minutes, with an own goal from Daniel Webb securing a three-goal lead for the home side.

Salisbury added a late consolation through Lloyd Macklin in a respectable showing from the Conference South side.

Sheffield United continue their league campaign against Yeovil on Tuesday, while Salisbury travel to Thurrock.
