Roberto Martinez unhappy with Phil Jagielka PFA Team of the Year snub

Everton manager Roberto Martinez claims that Phil Jagielka was unlucky not to be included in the PFA Team of the Year.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has claimed that Phil Jagielka should have "undoubtedly" been named in the PFA Team of the Year.

No Toffees players were included in the XI that was announced on Sunday, with the majority of the team being made up from members of the top six in the table.

Despite an indifferent season for the club, Martinez believes that Jagielka's individual form should have seen him recognised by his peers.

"When you are looking at the awards at the end of season I think people get affected by winning teams and teams that have caught you eye by the results more than anything," the Spaniard told the club's official website.

"Any football person that has gone into detail and seen what Phil Jagielka has done this season, undoubtedly he should have been in the PFA Team of the Year. He's not just a defender defending; he's a defender who has been a leader of men and been a captain through difficult periods."

Everton extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to six games on the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Goodison Park.
