Sergio Gonzalez has been officially appointed as the new head coach of La Liga side Espanyol.
The former Espanyol B boss has been promoted to the first team following Javier Aguirre's decision to leave his post at the end of the 2013-14 season.
A statement on the club's official website has revealed that Gonzalez has become the new manager of the Barcelona-based side, but the length of the agreement has not yet been disclosed.
Gonzalez, who represented Espanyol between 1998 and 2001, spent the majority of his playing career with Deportivo La Coruna before retiring in 2011 after one season at Levante.
The former midfielder also made 11 appearances for Spain from 2001 until 2005.
