England and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will not feature for the Three Lions in their 2014 World Cup qualifier against San Marino tomorrow due to a knee injury.
The 34-year-old has been a doubt for the clash at Wembley after he trained away from his teammates on Tuesday at England's new training centre in Burton.
It has now been confirmed by the Football Association that the midfielder has gone back to Chelsea to seek treatment and will return to the England camp on Sunday to be assessed ahead of the Three Lions qualifier against Poland next week.
Lampard was expected to skipper the side at Wembley tomorrow due to the suspension of regular captain Steven Gerrard but reports have claimed that Manchester United frontman Wayne Rooney could be handed the armband for the match.
England boss Roy Hodgson will name his captain for the San Marino clash later today.
