Former England international Paul Merson has stated that Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon deserves to play for the national team.
The 29-year-old has been a consistent performer for Palace since joining them from Southampton in 2014 but has never received an international call-up.
Ex-Arsenal man Merson, who won 21 caps for the Three Lions between 1991 and 1998, has stated that England manager Roy Hodgson should seriously consider giving Puncheon a chance.
"I'm a big fan," Merson told Sky Sports News. "I don't agree with [Wilfried] Zaha being called up, but this lad, I think, could step up and play international football.
"He can do something different. He's comfortable in possession and he sees a pass."
Puncheon has scored 10 goals in 63 Premier League appearances for Palace.
