Paul Merson: 'Take Arsenal ace Jack Wilshere to Euro 2016'

Ex-Arsenal forward Paul Merson says that England boss Roy Hodgson should take midfielder Jack Wilshere to Euro 2016.

Paul Merson has claimed that England boss Roy Hodgson would be foolish not to bring Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to Euro 2016 if he is fit.

The 24-year-old has not played a single minute of competitive action for the Gunners this season in what has been another injury-plagued campaign.

It has been suggested that Wilshere - who played some qualifiers - should still make the trip to France if he is fit in time, and former Arsenal ace Merson believes that he should go.

"One thing about Roy is he is very loyal," Merson told Sky Sports News. "He's very loyal to the people who have helped in along the way in the group stages.

"That's the way I read it. I think he needs to do more than just get on a pitch, for me he'll have to play a few games and see where it goes from there.

"If he's fit I think he will take him, I think he's different to what we have got. He will make things happen, and sometimes you've just got to take that chance."

The Three Lions face Germany in Berlin on Saturday, before hosting the Netherlands on Tuesday - both friendlies.
