England manager Roy Hodgson has paid tribute to Fabian Delph following the Aston Villa midfielder's performance in their 2-0 win over Switzerland on Monday evening.
The Villa star marked his first competitive game with the Three Lions with an assured performance as Hodgson's side got their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign off to a winning start away from home.
"If I had to make one special mention, it'd be for Fabian Delph," Hodgson told Sky Sports News.
"I thought it was a really big occasion for him being here in Switzerland, and to play so well, I didn't quite know if I could get that level of performance from him.
"I've seen him play well for Aston Villa, but it's another thing playing for England. So that was a question mark over him, but he answered that one brilliantly I thought."
The appearance against the Swiss was Delph's second cap.
