Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has insisted that Fabian Delph is worthy of his place in the current England squad.
The midfielder could feature for his country tonight when they start their European Championship qualifying campaign away to Switzerland.
Despite only making his debut for the national team against Norway last week, Lambert believes that the 24-year-old will be a good addition to Roy Hodgson's starting XI this evening.
"This season he's started really well and he deserves to be given a chance," he told Villa's official website. "You won't know until you throw somebody in how good they're going to be or if they can handle it but, given the chance, Fabian won't let anybody down.
"It's great for Aston Villa that we've brought another young lad through and hopefully he can stay in it. Sometimes it's harder to get out of the national team once you're in there, so once you're in it you may as well stay in it."
Delph has featured in all three of Villa's Premier League matches so far this season.
